5v5 Scranton Summer Kick Off Schedule

Dear Coaches and Teams,

The tournament schedules are now posted for the 5v5 Scranton Summer Kick Off Soccer tournament this weekend. You can view them at this link:

Please review the schedule to ensure you are in the correct division and that there are no conflicts with your bracket(s). Schedules are subject to change, so be sure to check back on Friday evening.

Please check in your team at the tournament headquarters tent 30 minutes prior to your first game. Remember to bring any roster changes, as this will be your last opportunity to make changes. Also, make sure to have a photo or copy of proof of age. Only one representative from each team needs to attend the check-in.

You are welcome to email me all the forms for a non-contact check-in. Make sure to send 1 email per team, subject put the team name exactly like they are registered with the division they are playing. Make sure to sign the bottom of the roster form. Although proof of age won’t be examined at check-in, please keep the cards/certificates with you in case of a challenge.

We want to remind everyone of our zero tolerance policy for referee abuse at 5v5 Soccer. As we aim to create a positive and fun tournament, it is crucial that we maintain a supportive sideline environment. While competition is part of the game, let's remember to be respectful and encouraging. Referees play a vital role in ensuring fair play, and we must treat them with respect.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO:
‣ Encourage positive behavior
‣ Cheer and support without aggression
‣ Communicate with respect
‣ Focus on player development

By following these guidelines, we can create a safe and inclusive atmosphere for everyone involved. This should extend to how we treat all team supporters, coaches, staff members, players on both teams and our officials.

A FEW POINTS OF EMPHASIS ON THE 5V5 SOCCER RULES

Touchline (Sideline) Restarts: In place of throw-ins will be kick-ins OR a dribble in with the ball placed stationary on the touchline. A player may not directly kick a ball into the goal from its stationary restart position. A player may also dribble the ball into play and after the ball makes a full rotation may then be kicked into the goal. Kick-ins will be treated as indirect kicks until dribbled.

Direct Restarts: A Corner Kick and Kickoff are Direct Kicks. The kick-off may go in any direction.

Goal Kick: Any time a Goal Kick is required, the goalkeeper will execute a Goal Clearance (ball must leave the Penalty Arc). The goalkeeper will start with the ball in their hands and may either (1) Throw or roll the ball, (2) Put the ball down and pass/kick, (3) put the ball down and dribble out of the Penalty Arc.

Once the ball has been put down, the ball is effectively “live”, meaning defending players may enter the penalty arc. The goalkeeper must release the ball within four seconds. Failure to execute the Goal Clearance within 4 seconds will result in an Indirect kick at the top of the arc for the opposition. A goal may not be scored directly from a goal clearance. Once the ball is OUTSIDE the Penalty Arc, a goal may be scored from anywhere on the field. The ball may not be punted or drop-kicked. Infractions will result in an Indirect Kick at the top of the arc for the opposition.

We currently have a few “Open Slots” (3 team brackets). If you know anyone interested in filling these slots, please have them contact me as soon as possible. We will fill slots on a first-come, first-served basis.

If your team has not paid yet and has not communicated with our staff, your team will be dropped from the event by Thursday morning.

IMPORTANT NOTES (Please pass this information along to your parents):

The tournament will be held at Hillside Park, 1188 Winola Rd, S. Abington Twp, PA.

All games will be played on turf. No chairs, tents, or food will be allowed on the field. There are benches around the outer part of the field that spectators may use. Chairs and tents will be permitted around the outside of the fenced area. There is also an upper grass field available for tents and/or practice in between games.

Bathrooms will be available near the uppper and lower parking lots, and a porta potty will be set up near the check in table near just outside of the field. There will be no parking allowed on the grass along the road, or in the small lot by the turf field where check-in is. That will be reserved for event staff and refs only.

There will be a food truck available in the lower parking lot, and a concessions stand available in the upper pavilion. A field map is attached for your convenience.

FAQ

Q: Can I add or change a player(s) on my roster?
A: Yes, the roster is not final until the start of your first game. Please bring any roster changes to the team check-in, unless the change affects the division you are in, in which case you must notify me by e-mail. All players must fill out the online waiver form, and be on the paper roster you turn in at check-in.

Q: What is the uniform policy?
A: Players must be in like colors and shin guards are required.

Q: What do I need to bring to the check-in?
A: 1) 5v5 Roster (link above). 2) Verify that all players have filled out the online player waiver (link above)

Q: What if I want to register a co-ed team?
A: We are happy to have co-ed teams. We will create co-ed divisions when we have a sufficient number in any age group. If we do not have enough, they will play in a male division.

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:

DIVISIONS
Teams will be grouped into divisions based on birth year and skill level. Brackets will be combined by teams +/- 1 year and/or skill level to make the most competitive brackets possible.

SCHEDULE & SPECIAL REQUESTS

►Schedule Requests? Send any schedule requests no later than Wednesday at 6 pm to dawn@5v5soccer.com. Include team name, division, and event location in the subject line.
►If the request is made later than Wednesday at 6pm, changes may not be accepted.

GAME FORMAT
►All teams play a minimum of 4 games.
►Divisions with 3, 5, or 6 teams play round-robin; 1st place is determined by points.
►4-team divisions have 3 pool games and a final playoff.

NATIONALS QUALIFICATION
►Teams placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd qualify for Nationals in Florida coming November 2025.
